On Saturday, September 20, the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA) once again showcased its leadership in Nigeria’s recycling movement by sponsoring and mobilising stakeholders across the country for World Cleanup Day 2025, in collaboration with Let’s Do It Nigeria.
In Lagos, the flagship event at Ikosi-Ketu brought together staff of FBRA member companies, regulators, volunteers, waste collectors, street sweepers, and community advocates for an awareness walk and clean-up exercise. The effort cleared over 830kg of post-consumer packaging waste from the busy fruit market and its surroundings.
The popular BuyBack Initiative added excitement to the day as residents exchanged recyclable materials for food products from FBRA member companies, making waste recovery both rewarding and community-driven.
“This is more than a symbolic event,” said FBRA’s Executive Director, Agharese Onaghise. “World Cleanup Day is a call to action, and FBRA is proud to lead the charge in building cleaner communities while advancing our mission of responsible waste recovery and the circular economy.”
FBRA’s impact extended beyond Lagos. In partnership with the Recyclers Association of Nigeria (RAN) and Let’s Do It Nigeria, simultaneous clean-up exercises were held in Abia, Anambra, Abuja, Kaduna, Rivers, Edo, Enugu, Kwara, and Ogun States, underscoring the Alliance’s nationwide reach.

Through a blend of advocacy, infrastructure support, and grassroots engagement, FBRA continues to set the standard for producer responsibility in Nigeria. This year’s World Cleanup Day further strengthens the Alliance’s commitment to circular economy solutions in the food, beverage, and tobacco sector.
The Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance is an industry-led Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) dedicated to the recovery and recycling of post-consumer packaging waste in Nigeria. With 47 member companies, including leading FMCG brands, recyclers, and producers, FBRA drives sustainable practices through advocacy, collection, and public education.
