A 19-year-old man, Abeeb Adeshina, on Monday, appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State, for allegedly breaking into a house with intent to steal.
Adeshina, whose address was not stated, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence alongside others now at large on June 3, at No. 45, Abebi Ijoko, Ota.
He alleged that the defendant and his accomplices conspired to break into the house of a complainant one Yissa Subat, with intent to steal.
He told the court that the defendant was however, caught by the vigilante group and handed over to the police.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 508 and 516 of Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
She held that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the state government.
The court adjourned the case until June 29, for further hearing.
