An Ekiti-based pro-democracy group, Ekiti Democracy Vanguard (EDV) has condemned the alleged bias of and partisanship by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Chief John Oyegun in the handling of the ongoing governorship Primary in Ekiti State.

In a statement released in Ado Ekiti, the state capital by its Public Communication Officer, Iyabode Ogunleye, EDV the group warned that Oyegun’s actions “portend an escalation of brigandage and violence.”

The Ekiti state chapter of the APC has been embroiled in crisis following the botched governorship primary that ended in violence and destruction of ballot papers at the Oluyemi kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti.

Ogunleye said: “We have watched with keen interests all the plots and counterplots that ended in the show of shame in Ado Ekiti. We also watched with batted breath the chain of events that followed the cancellation of that primary election including the forceful takeover of the APC secretariat by thugs allegedly loyal to one of the aspirants thereafter.

“We are however shocked that till date, Oyegun as the leader of the party has not condemned the brigandage his party unleashed on the psyche of Ekiti people. Rather, he has continued day after day to exploit his position toward foisting a primary whose outcome is already predetermined.

According to the group, “the purported rejection by Oyegun of proposals put forward by the Leaders of the South West and supported by not less than 27 aspirants for the conduct of the Primary election is indicative of the fact that Oyegun is not interested in a democratic process but to simply impose a candidate through crooked means”,

The group warned that the action of the APC chair could further worsen the tensed situation in the state “ and as such we are pleading that APC should put his house in order and stop further actions that could jeopardise peace. Oyegun should allow peace to reign in Ekiti.”
