The Nigerian Computer Society (NCS), Lagos State Chapter, has rolled out a strategic agenda to throw its weight behind the advancement of digital literacy in Lagos State through the empowerment of young innovators.
The NCS revealed the development during its 2026 Lagos Digital Walk within the Alausa axis of the state, which was part of the activities to create awareness of the society’s forthcoming 17th IT Summit and Awards, scheduled to hold on November 5, 2026, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) building.
The summit is themed “Building Lagos’ Digital Talent Pipeline: Empowering Education, Innovation and Enterprise,” with a focus on strengthening digital skills development, promoting technology-driven entrepreneurship, and creating opportunities for young people to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.
The road walk exercise was also aimed at drawing the attention of the public to the effective role and activities of NCS in contributing to the advancement of digital transformation while promoting physical fitness and healthy living.
Dr. Adeshina Adewale, Chairman of NCS Lagos Chapter, spoke during the walk, noting that the initiative was part of the society’s concerted efforts to increase its visibility, deepen public engagement and showcase its contributions to the development of the state’s technology ecosystem.
He said NCS Lagos is advancing the agenda through strategic partnerships with government, industry and academia, alongside targeted initiatives designed to identify, encourage and develop young technology talents across educational institutions.
Some of the chapter’s flagship programmes, according to Adewale, include the Best Overall WAEC Results Award in Lagos State, organised in partnership with Sidmach Technologies and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
He listed other initiatives, such as the Don Etiebet Innovative Prize, which recognises outstanding final-year projects by students in tertiary institutions, and the Salako Marvin Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Prize.
Also identified in the list of the association’s significant projects executed so far is the IT Champs Competition, sponsored by Pastor Mrs. Veronica Uhulabi, which he described as a key programme aimed at stimulating technology-driven creativity among pupils in upper primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools.
The projects, according to him, encourage innovation and practical applications of emerging technologies.
As part of the practical innovations that emerged from the NCS programme, Adewale mentioned an AI-powered school bell system developed by a secondary school teacher in collaboration with the students.
According to him, the system provides advance notifications before the end of each teaching period and signals when the period has elapsed, which offers schools a technology-driven approach to improving time management and classroom administration.
To further provide them the opportunity to showcase their creativity and demonstrate how technology can address everyday challenges, Adewale disclosed that the students were expected to develop another sample of the innovation for presentation at the forthcoming IT Summit.
He stressed the need for mentorship, institutional support, and continuity to sustain youth-led innovations, saying, “Young innovators require sustained guidance and access to opportunities to transform promising ideas into viable solutions with long-term impact.”

The NCS Lagos Chairman applauded Zinox, Sidmach Technologies, Data Sciences Nigeria, Computer Warehouse Group and FinTrak, among other organisations for their collaborations with the society.
The partnership, according to him, would encourage greater participation in the society’s activities, especially among pupils, students and young people in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
Adewale said that NCS Lagos is committed to strengthening ties with the country’s ICT reporting arm, Nigerian Information Technology Reporters Association (NITRA), for effective public awareness and visibility for the society’s programmes and initiatives through the media.
NCS Lagos aims to use the 17th IT Summit and Awards to strengthen further collaboration among government, academia, technology companies and other stakeholders towards building a sustainable digital talent pipeline that will empower education, stimulate innovation and support enterprise development in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
