CAPPA Hails Board Chairman Rafsanjani on Transparency International’s Highest Anti-Corruption Award

Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has congratulated its Advisory Board Chairman, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, on receiving the Transparency International Amalia Award for Individual Professional Excellence, one of the organisation’s highest global honours recognising outstanding leadership and commitment in the anti-corruption fight.

In a statement, CAPPA described the award as a fitting recognition of Rafsanjani’s unwavering dedication to transparency, accountability, democratic governance, and the defence of citizens’ rights in Nigeria and beyond.

Named after the late Amalia Kostanyan, former Chair of Transparency International Armenia, the award recognises individuals and national chapters for outstanding leadership, innovation and commitment to advancing transparency, accountability and anti-corruption efforts.

Rafsanjani, a prominent Nigerian civil rights leader and Head of Transparency International (TI) Nigeria, was presented with the award during the Transparency International Movement Awards Ceremony on July 1, marking the conclusion of the TI Summit 2026, held from June 29 to July 1.

With the recognition, he becomes the first African to receive the Transparency International Amalia Award for Individual Professional Excellence.

For decades, Rafsanjani has remained one of Africa’s most respected voices in the struggle against corruption, consistently championing open government, fiscal transparency, civic participation and accountable public institutions. His work has inspired countless citizens and civil society organisations to demand integrity in governance and to hold those in positions of authority accountable.

CAPPA said that his exemplary leadership as Chairman of its Advisory Board has continued to strengthen the organisation’s commitment to advancing the public interest, defending human rights, promoting healthy public policies, and ensuring that governments and corporations are held accountable for their actions.

“On behalf of the Board, management and staff of CAPPA, we warmly congratulate Mr. Auwal Musa Rafsanjani on this well-deserved international recognition,” CAPPA’s Executive Director, Akinbode Oluwafemi, said.

“This honour is not only a tribute to his outstanding personal integrity and decades of courageous advocacy, but also an affirmation of the values that continue to drive the work of civil society organisations across Nigeria and the African continent. At a time when transparency, accountability and citizen participation are more critical than ever, this award reminds us that principled leadership remains indispensable to building just, democratic and inclusive societies.”

CAPPA noted that Rafsanjani’s recognition serves as an inspiration to a new generation of civic leaders committed to confronting corruption, protecting democratic institutions and advancing social justice.

The organisation wished him continued strength and success as he continues to contribute to national, regional and global efforts to promote integrity, accountability and good governance.
