An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Wednesday, sentenced a carpenter, Boluwatife Adewumi, 20, to eight months imprisonment for stealing an air conditioner worth N350,000.
Adewumi, who was arraigned on Sept. 9, on a four-count charge of conspiracy, theft, unlawful entering and malicious damage, had pleaded not guilty to the offences.
Though granted bail, Adewumi could not meet the conditions imposed and therefore remanded in custody and attended hearing from the prison since Sept.9, 2025.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Kausarat Ayofe found Adewumi guilty as charged and sentenced him to eight months imprisonment without an option of fine.
Ayofe ordered that the eight months shall count from the date of arraignment, Sept. 9, 2025, when the convict has been in prison.
She sentenced the convict to eight months imprisonment on each of the four-counts, to run concurrently.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Olalekan Adegbite told the court that Adewumi committed the offences on Sept. 5, 2025, at about 3.25 a.m., at Mutual Benefit Insurance Company, Onireke, Ibadan.
He said the convict and others at large stole an air conditioner worth N350,000, belonging to the aforementioned company.
According to the prosecutor, the convict unlawfully entered the company and maliciously damaged the AC with the intent to steal it.
He said that the offences contravened provisions of Sections 516, 390(9), 412 and 451 of the Criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.
