Several passengers on Friday besieged the motor park in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, to travel to their various communities ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), youths and elderly ones were seen at the motor park as early as 8 a.m. to travel to their respective communities to perform their civic duties.
NAN also reports that the movement of the people was also enhanced by the Friday work-free day declared by the state government for the election.
A NAN correspondent who visited the central motor park observed that drivers were busy arranging luggages in their buses, while POS operators were also busy dispensing cash to the passengers.
Reacting to the mass movement of passengers, the Unit Chairman of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Mr Olumide Omotoso, said they were really impressed with the turnout of passengers at the park.
Omotoso said that the executive members of RTEAN deliberately did not increase the cost of transportation because of the current economic situation of the country.
He assured that vehicles that were in good conditions would be made available to the passengers to enhance smooth travels.
“We are delighted to have passengers coming to the park to travel to their various communities ahead of the governorship election. We have good buses to take our passengers to their various destinations,” he said.
