Ibadan: Gunmen abduct ex-power minister’s sister, children

The Southwest became a scene of another abduction on Wednesday morning as some gunmen kidnapped Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, alongside her twin sons, Peter and Paul, in Ibadan, Oyo state.

Mrs John-Paul, 43, is the youngest of the five children of Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. The immediate past minister of power is her brother.

According to a statement by the family, she and her children were abducted at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, while she was taking her children to school. The armed assailants reportedly intercepted them and whisked them away to an unknown destination.

Until her voluntary retirement last year, she had served in both the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian. After her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children while making arrangements to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who resides in the United States of America.

The family disclosed that all relevant security and law enforcement agencies were immediately notified following the incident.

According to the statement, security operatives have commenced investigations and are currently working to secure the safe release of the victims while pursuing those responsible for the abduction.

The former minister and members of the family have expressed deep concern over the incident but reaffirmed their confidence in the ability of security agencies to rescue the victims safely.

The family appealed to members of the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and refrain from circulating unverified information that could jeopardize ongoing rescue efforts.

The family further urged anyone with useful information that could assist investigators to promptly report such information through the appropriate security channels.
