Surety in court for allegedly failing to produce suspect

The police on Tuesday dragged a 39-year-old man, Arinze Okereke, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, for allegedly failing to produce a suspect.

Okereke is standing trial on charges bordering on perversion of justice.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Adeshina Folaranmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in the year, at Ojoo police station, Ibadan.

He alleged that Okereke perverted the course of justice by failing to produce one Ugochukwu David for whom he stood surety in a case of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravenes the provisions of section 126 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwabusayo Osho, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Feb. 4, 2026, for hearing.
