Court jails man 18 months for stealing N3m tricycle

An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State on Monday, sentenced a 38- year-old man, Babalola Abideen, for conspiring with another person to steal a tricycle worth N3 million.

She also directed the convict to pay a restitution of N2 million to the complainant.

Fadairo said that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Abideen was guilty of the charge preferred against him.

Abideen, of no fixed address, had earlier pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of stealing, conspiracy and obtaining the tricycle under false pretence.

The Prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye told the court earlier that the defendant and one other at large, committed the offences on July 3, at about 1.25 p.m. at No. 10, Queen Avenue, Beye, De Bells in Ota.

Adaraloye said that the defendant conspired with a mechanic and stole a tricycle with registration number MUS 982 QF, valued at N3 million.

He said that Abideen collected the tricycle from one David Abiodun with a promise to pay N7000 in instalments, but he unfortunately failed to fulfil the agreement.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 387, 390, and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
