Welder jailed 18 months for stealing

A Magistrate’s Court in Jos, on Wednesday sentenced a 22 -year-old welder, Abdulmumuni Saidu to 18 months in prison for stealing.

The Magistrate, Irene Pati summarily tried and sentenced the convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge of theft.

Pati, in her judgment, gave the convict an option of fine of N50, 000 or spend one year in prison.

She also ordered the convict to pay a compensation of N40, 000 or spend another six months in default.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ijuptil Thiawur, told the court that the case was reported at the “C” Division Police Station on Sept. 17, by one Osama Nayaya, the complainant.

Thiawur said that the convict was given a job in the complainant’s house and he stole his decoder, hammer and chisel all valued at N40, 000.

He added that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
