President Bola Tinubu has sent a message of condolence to the family of the Speaker of the House of representatives Agunwa Anaekwe, who served as Speaker in the Third Republic (1992-1993).
In a statement the president said, “I commiserate with his family, the government, and the people of Anambra State.
“Chief Anaekwe, who passed away at 69, is remembered in history as one who opposed military dictatorship and the truncation of democratic governance.
“I was a member of the National Assembly in the Third Republic, and I vividly recall the sacrifices of those who dared the military authorities.
“Chief Anaekwe was a bold, courageous, and disciplined leader. He provided the needed leadership in parliament during utter chaos and rudderlessness. He was a true democrat and well-versed parliamentarian.
“With the return of democratic governance in 1999, the former Speaker continued to play an important part in nation-building. In 2006, he helped found the Action Congress (AC) in Anambra State and was the first interim state chairman.
“He was also a member of our party’s National Caucus, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I believe his diligent service to Nigeria will continue to inspire other legislators and administrators throughout the decades.
“I pray that God Almighty grant him eternal rest and his family the strength to bear this painful loss,” the president said.
The president also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Abba Moro, and his family over the death of his son, Victor Moro, and grandson, Abba Moro Jr.
The President commiserated with the family, friends and associates of the Senator, who represents Benue South Senatorial District, Zone C, in the National Assembly.
President Tinubu urged the family to find solace in the impactful lives of the children, whose time on earth, though short, is truly a blessing to the many lives they touched and those who came in contact with them.
The President prayed that God Almighty will receive the souls of the departed children and comfort the family.
