A Magistrate’s Court in Jos, on Monday sentenced a 20-year-old applicant, Abba Hassan, to 18 months in prison for stealing POS machines.
The Magistrate, Irene Pati summarily tried and sentenced the convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Pati in her judgment however gave the convict an option of fine of N30, 000 or spend six months for trespass
She also sentenced the suspect to one year in prison for theft or pay an option of fine of N50, 000.
She ordered the convict to pay a compensation of N165, 000 or spend additional four months in prison, adding that all sentences were to run concurrently.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported at the “C” Division Police Station on Sept. 16, by one Ibrahim Nimmak, the complainant.
Gokwat said that the convict stole the five machines valued at N162, 000 from the complainant’s car where he parked it.
He said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
