Scavenger docked for allegedly stealing from block-making industry

A 30-year-old scavenger, Aminu Idris, was on Monday docked in a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing property worth N3.9 million from a block-making industry .

The police charged Idris, who lives in Angwan Hausa in Karmo,  Abuja with joint act and theft.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mrs Kelechi Iwueze, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Aug. 6.

Nwachukwu alleged that the defendant abd others at large, broke into the complainant’s block industry stole two generators, three batteries, four mould and shovels.

Other items stolen she said, are one cellphone, 50 litres of diesel, 25 liters of fuel, and other valuables worth N3.9 million.

She said that when the defendant was eventually arrested, he had in his possession one iron pan for moulding rings, which was stolen from the block industry.

Nwachukwu said when the defendant was handed over to the police, he made a confessional statement admitting that he bought the iron pan from someone.

The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

Chief Magistrate Musa Jobbo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Oct. 6 for hearing.
