Barber arraigned for allegedly smashing bottle on colleague

A 27-year-old barber, Gbenga Alli on Friday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, for allegedly smashing bottle on one Samuel Ajeigbe.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge bordering on felony and assault, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Ayodeji Omoyeigha told the court that the defendant and two others now at large on July 21, at a food canteen at Cubana Street, in Okitipupa, Okitipupa Magisterial District conspired to commit felony.

Omoyeigha alleged that a dispute broke out among them, and the defendant, along with others at large, assaulted the complainant, smashing a bottle on him and causing various injuries.

The prosecutor added that the defendant also threatened to kill the complainant, causing him to flee.

He stated that the defendant committed offences punishable under sections 516 and 351, Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mayowa Olanipekun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.

He added that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.

The case was adjourned until Sept. 25 for further hearing.
