A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, sentenced an 18-year-old electrician, Aminu Sabo to one year in prison for stealing a phone.
The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Bokkos in her judgment gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine or to spend six months in prison.
She also ordered the convict to pay a compensation of N80,000 to the complainant or spend another six months in default.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Ijuptil Thiawur, told the court that the case was reported at the “C” Division Police Station on April 11, by one Mohammed Dahir, who was also the complainant.
Thiawur said that the convict went to the house of the complainant and stole his wife’s phone valued at N70,000.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravenes Plateau Penal Code Law.
