A Lagos chief, Chief Isiaka Ogundare, has applauded President Bola Tinubu’s efforts at repositioning the country and correcting the mistakes of the past.
Ogundare, the Apena of Lagos, gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos while assessing Tinubu’s first year in office as President.
Tinubu was sworn in as Nigeria’s 16th President on May 29, 2023 for a four- year tenure.
While saying the President had so far acquitted himself remarkably well in office, Ogundare urged citizens to support and pray for his administration to succeed.
Ogundare said: “We will continue to pray to God for him to succeed. He is trying his best because a lot of things had gone bad before his coming. He has done well.
“It is easy to demolish a house, but building it is difficult and not a day’s job. He has made some bold steps ,such as ending the regime of fuel subsidy .The removal of fuel subsidy and other reforms of his administration are commendable.
He, however, urged the President to pay attention to advice from well-meaning Nigerians in order to hasten the restoration of hope to the masses.
“My advice to the President is for him to be cool -headed and take good counsel. The President should be able to take a look back and see if there are shortcomings.
“He should look critically at whatever mistakes he may have made in the last 365 days and make efforts to do what should be done that he hasn’t done.
“If he starts correcting these mistakes, within the next two years, everything will be fine with the country.
“The President must also consider all past mistakes of previous governments and set the country on the path of progress,” Ogundare said.
According to him, the President should set politics aside at this point in time and concentrate on nation- building.
“My advice to him is to forget about politics for now.He should strive to deliver good governance.Nigerians want to see more positive changes in this second year,” he added.
Also Speaking on Tinubu’s first year in office, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress(APC)in Lagos,Mr Abiodun Salami , said the performance of the Tinubu-led administration is above par.
Salami, a former Assistant Publicity Secretary of APC in Lagos, said Tinubu was redeeming his electoral promises to Nigerians.
“Our President ,Bola Tinubu has done in his first year in office. He is taking courageous steps and implementing daring reforms to take the country to the Promised Land.
“Yes ,there are problems. There are challenges, no doubt about that ,but what is important is that the President is not playing the ostrich, but taking calculated steps to surmount them.
“Tinubu promised to fix Nigeria; he is doing that.In a few years from now ,Nigerians would appreciate what the administration is doing right now.The fruits of Tinubu’s reforms shall surely manifest”,he told NAN.
