Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North) said the death of retired Lt..-Gen. Garba Duba, the former Military Governor of Sokoto State, has created a huge vacuum for Nigeria.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN), Gen Duba passed away on Friday at the age of 82.
Duba, who hailed from Niger State, served as the Military Administrator of Sokoto State from January 1984 to August 1985 during the military regime of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He was also a Director at First Bank Nigeria PLC and a non-Executive Director at Honeywell Flour Mills Plc, among other roles.
Wamakko, a former Governor of Sokoto State, prayed to Allah, the Almighty to forgive the deceased and reward him with Jannatul Firdaus.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, Malam Bashar Abubakar, the lawmaker described the deceased as a hardworking military officer.
“During his active service and even after retirement, he was hardworking throughout his life, leaving behind a record of remarkable achievements as the governor of Sokoto State,” Wamakko said.
He added that the demise of Duba was a rude shock but believed it was the time allocated to him by God.
Wamakko extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the Government of Niger, the people of Sokoto State and Nigeria in general.
