A former governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni has resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) .
This development is coming a few days after he lost the PDP governorhsip primary election in Ekiti to Bisi Kolawole, the anointed candidate of ex-Governor Ayodele Fayose.
Kolwawole was declared the winner after polling 671 votes to beat Oni, his closest rival, who had 330 votes.
The Segun oni campaign organization rejected the result of the PDP primary citing irregularities and disenfranchisement of his members from the process.
Over the past few days, there have been speculation that the former governor may dump the party.
On Saturday, the speculation was put to rest when Oni addressed his supporters in his residence in Ifaki-Ekiti, where he announced his exit.
He, however,, did not announce his next political party but there that the former governor may join All Progressives Grand Alliance.(APGA)
Oni was the governor of Ekiti State from on the platform of the PDP between May 29, 2007 and October 15, 2010.
He was sacked as the governor by a court judgment that ruled in favor of the then-candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Kayode Fayemi.
