Social media websites Facebook and Instagram are experiencing technical problems Tuesday, with users in Nigeria and around the world unable to log in to or refresh their accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Facebook users reported problems including being logged out \u2014 and when they attempted to log back in saw an error message such as, \u201cSomething went wrong. Please try again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instagram users reported that their feed was not refreshing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both websites are owned by United States-based firm Meta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meta spokesperson Andy Stone, confirmed<\/a> the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” Stone wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of 2023, Facebook was the largest social media platform globally<\/a> with 3.03 billion monthly active users worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was estimated that there were over 2 billion users<\/a> of Instagram as of 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outage also extended to Meta\u2019s Messaging platform and Threads, its Twitter-like app launched last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many users initially feared their accounts were hacked, with fruitless efforts to reset passwords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not the first time a Meta-owned platform has faced issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Facebook suffered a global outage in 2022, making many unable to watch videos or send messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Users of the blue platform in Nigeria took to X, formally known as Twitter, to share their concerns over the outage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
