The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has detected an attempted unauthorised compromise of its official X account.
The Director, Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
Uba stated that the incident was being treated as a cybersecurity matter, with appropriate technical measures activated to secure the account.
He said efforts were ongoing to fully restore control of the official account and prevent further unauthorised access.
The defence spokesman, therefore, urged the public and media to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised or misleading content posted from the account.
He said “the Defence Headquarters remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of information, security and ensuring that the public continues to receive accurate, timely and credible information.”
Uba added that the DHQ appreciated the understanding and vigilance of the public, assuring that further updates would be provided as necessary.
He urged Nigerians to rely on DHQ’s verified Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp channels for official information on the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
