Ondo: Police recover stolen vehicle, arrest two suspected armed robbers

 

The Police Command in Ondo State has recovered a vehicle stolen at gunpoint, a stun gun and arrested two suspects of an armed robbery syndicate in Akure, the state capital.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s Spokesperson, who made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday in Akure, said the recovered vehicle was a Lexus RX350 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

He explained that the arrest was made by the operatives of the Akure area command, who acted swiftly on a complaint of armed robbery.

According to him, the operatives launched an intelligence-driven investigation which culminated in the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the apprehension of the principal suspects.

“The incident occurred on July 23 at about 8:40 p.m., when armed men reportedly attacked a victim at Advic Resort, Alagbaka, Akure and forcefully dispossessed him of his vehicle. Upon receipt of a formal complaint from the victim, Mr Yemi Adeyemi, on July 24, the detectives immediately commenced a painstaking investigation to trail the perpetrators.

“The stolen vehicle was subsequently recovered intact at the outskirts of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo Campus axis, where it was abandoned, as investigation progresses.

“The two suspects were arrested on July 25, while preliminary investigation revealed that they were members of a criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery activities within and outside the state.

“Subsequent searches conducted at their hideouts led to the recovery of a stun gun loaded with one rubber bullet, a jack knife and the victim’s iPhone 13 Pro Max

“The recovered exhibits have been taken into police custody as critical evidence while forensic and technical analysis continues,” he said.

Jimoh, therefore, reassured residents that the command remained resolute in dismantling criminal networks responsible for kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes.

The spokesperson further disclosed that investigations were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, recover additional exhibits and ensure that everyone connected with the criminal enterprise was brought to justice.
