The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has said one person died and two others sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle accident involving a truck at Kara Bridge, inward Mowe-Ibafo, on Friday.

The agency disclosed this in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs, Mr Olawale Afolabi, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

It said its response team was deployed to the scene at 5:46 a.m. following reports of a truck accident obstructing the corridor.

According to LASEMA, the truck, laden with bags of monosodium glutamate, overturned and blocked about 75 per cent of the carriageway.

Preliminary investigations showed that brake failure caused the driver to lose control of the truck, leading to the accident.

The agency said the overturned truck triggered a secondary collision involving four other vehicles.

The affected vehicles were a Toyota Sienna, a mini truck carrying paint, a flatbed truck loaded with imported plywood and another fully loaded truck.

LASEMA said the collision spilled paint and plywood sheets onto the road, worsening traffic congestion.

It said an adult male was trapped beneath the overturned truck and was confirmed dead at the scene.

The agency said emergency responders recovered the body and handed it over to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for evacuation.

It added that two other adult males sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

LASEMA said responders secured the area and activated traffic management measures to prevent further accidents and ease traffic flow.

It said two private tow trucks were engaged to remove the affected vehicles and clear the obstruction.

According to the agency, the operation was coordinated with the FRSC, the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

It added that recovery operations were ongoing to remove the vehicles, clear the spilled contents and restore normal traffic.

LASEMA advised motorists to obey traffic diversions, comply with officials’ directives and maintain safe speeds around Kara Bridge.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, commiserated with the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Oke-Osanyintolu also commended the professionalism of emergency responders and the cooperation of motorists during the operation.

He reaffirmed LASEMA’s commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt emergency response across the state.
