Security guard docked over alleged theft

 

A 47-year-old security guard, Shehu Alike, was on Thursday, arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, over alleged theft of N215,200.

Shehu, a resident of Keffi, Nassarawa, is being charged with theft, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Festus Ajayi told the court that the complaint, Abraham Kelechi, residing at 10 Osun Crescent, Maitama, Abuja, reported the matter at the Police Station on June 15.

Ajayi said that the defendant stole bags of cement, swimming pool fittings, and wires valued N215,200.

The prosecutor said that during police interrogation, the defendant confessed to have committed the crime.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 289 of the penal code.

The Chief Magistrates, Ekpeyong Inyang, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million, with one surety in like sum.

Inyang ordered that the surety must be a civil servant with a valid means of identification, and should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The magistrate further directed that the surety’s address should be verified by the court’s registrar, and adjourned the matter untill July 15 for hearing.
