Police nab two in Ogun over Edo killing, abduction

The Police Command in Ogun State, said it has arrested two suspects in Ijebu-Ode allegedly linked with a kidnapping and murder case in Edo State.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abeokuta.

He said the suspects were arrested at the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode following intelligence-driven investigations by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

According to him, the development followed an earlier statement issued on June 4, over arrest of the suspects by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service.

“Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects are wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation into a kidnapping and murder case reported in the Okada area of Edo State.

“Further intelligence gathered by the Command indicates that the suspects are alleged members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the incident under investigation. During the course of the investigation, operatives recovered one pair of Police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects,” he said

The spokesperson said that the alleged offences were committed outside Ogun State.

He added that the suspects as well as recovered exhibits would be transferred to the Police Command in Edo for further investigation and necessary legal action.

Babaseyi said that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Bode Ojajuni, has commended the professionalism and diligence of operatives involved in the investigation.

He reiterated the command’s resolve not to allow criminal elements use Ogun as a hideout or transit point for unlawful activities, while  assuring residents that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing strategies and strengthen collaborations to enhance public safety.

He, consequently, urged the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies to support efforts at tackling crime.
