NUJ, NAWOJ to hold security summit

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), African Independent Television (AIT), and Crime Reporters Global Nigeria is to hold the Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC) 2026.

Dr Adeola Ekine, Chairperson, Media and Publicity Committee, WINSEC,  told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday that the summit was a landmark initiative designed to spotlight the courage, passion, loyalty, commitment, and sacrifices of women in securing the nation.

Ekine said while creating a strategic platform for discussions on national security, peace building, intelligence gathering, safety, leadership, and nation building, WINSEC 2026 would also recognise and celebrate women making remarkable contributions in security, governance, media, advocacy, and community development.

“Beyond recognition, the summit seeks to encourage stronger collaboration among security agencies, the media, policymakers, and the public in addressing the security challenges facing Nigeria.

“It promises to be a major national gathering focused on security, inclusion, and development. The summit will attract distinguished personalities from across Nigeria and beyond, including top government officials, security chiefs, policymakers, members of the diplomatic corps, media executives, traditional rulers, corporate organizations, civil society groups, development partners, youth organisations, and women leaders from different sectors,” she said.

Ekine said that the event would equally provide a rare opportunity for young women and emerging professionals to network, learn, and engage with accomplished women and respected leaders in the security and leadership space.

She said that WINSEC was designed as an annual, continuous and sustainable initiative and not a one-off event.

However, she noted that the 2026 edition was expected to make history as one of the biggest platforms dedicated to women in security and nation building.

She said that the vision was to established a long-term annual platform for dialogue, recognition, collaboration, and advocacy.

The summit is expected to grow into a nationally recognised movement that consistently amplified women’s contributions to security, governance, peace building, and social development.

“Nigerians should “brace up for a mind-blowing mother of all events.”

“As we prepare for WINSEC 2026, I encourage Nigerians, especially women and young people, to see security as a collective responsibility.

“Building a peaceful and secure nation requires collaboration, vigilance, patriotism, responsible communication, and mutual respect among citizens.

“Women should continue to rise, lead, and contribute meaningfully to national development because their voices, perspectives, and leadership are vital to the progress of society,” Ekine said.
