The Department of Creative Arts of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka, Lagos, has held its maiden induction ceremony for its degree students.
The induction which was held at the institution’s campus was of activities to introduce the students to the practical aspects of their studies.
The Acting Provost of the institution, Dr Oluwatoyin Miller, in his speech asked the newly inducted students to brace up for the challenges ahead and be ready to be productive and creative in their endeavours.
The Dean, School of Vocational Studies, Dr Festus Adeyemi said he sees the department in the next four years producing brilliant students who are ready to take their place in the creative economy worldwide. According to him, the desire of the department and the school is to produce global talents.
The Head of Department, Mr. Kolade Ayeyemi said the induction was to welcome the new students and introduce them to a changing world of creative economy where graduates create jobs rather than hunt for them.
He added, “We need to intimate our students to create what they can sell. Create what people can buy. We are introducing them to the practical aspects, so that rather than looking for white collar jobs after graduation, they can start earning money from their works even as students.”
Mr Ayodele Agemo, a lecturer in the department, believes no one is born without talents and that they only need to be discovered and that is what the department is bent in doing and inculcating in its students.
The induction ceremony was conducted by the “Model Chief Priest” Mr Rykardo Agbor. It was attended by popular Nollywood actor, Ms Ann Njemanze, Dr Adeola Balogun, a Sculptor and Mr Segun Adefila, a popular theatre practitioner. They all advised the students to make the best of their time in the institution because they are being taught by academics who are also professionals.
