First Lady urges women to mentor, instill strong cultural values, modesty in young girls

First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has strongly advocated for mentorship that emphasises modesty, cultural values, and moral character.

She gave the advice on Thursday during an interfaith Iftar/Lent  breaking of fast she hosted for Muslim and Christian women.

“Nakedness is not acceptable in our culture. Beauty should be accompanied by decency,” she said.

She urged the younger generations to embrace their identity instead of adopting foreign fashion trends that expose their bodies.

She also urged parents to mentor the young ones on ways of life, dressing and have at least one mentee they can sponsor in school.

‎‎”Help them even if it’s to give a scholarship, teach them leadership, teach them how to be of good behaviour. Teach them how to dress well because you can see that our young people like open their bodies. Teach them how to cover up because being naked is not beauty, I can only pray that God will answer all your petitions, ”the First Lady said.

‎‎She urged Nigerians to use the Ramadan and Lent periods for spiritual reflection, pray for the nation’s peace and prosperity, and fostering unity across different faiths.

‎‎Dignitaries at the event include former First lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Wife of Vice-President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, Wives of Governors, Senior government officials amongst others.

‎Lectures were delivered by Prof. Ganiyat Adesins-Uthman, the Director, Directorate of Advancement and Linkage, National Open University of Nigeria and Bishop Sally Chinebedu of Dominion Church International, Abuja.
