A 34-year-old woman, Opeyemi Fowosele, on Thursday, appeared before an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly obtaining money under false pretext.
The defendant whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a three-count charge of obtaining money by false pretext, stealing and unlawful conversion.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Asp. Aminu Isaac, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between August and September 2025, at Alogba, Ebute area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant conspired with others now at large, to obtain the sum of N15 million from one Mr Olalekan Ajibola, with a promise to help him invest the money for a return, being a staff of Access Bank.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant knew that his representation to the complainant was false.
He alleged that the defendant never invested the money but unlawfully converted same to her personal use.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr B.A. Sonuga, granted the defendant bail in the sum of five million naira, with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until March 5, for mention.
