GOC attributes security gains to army leadership, warns criminals

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Adebayo Babalola, has attributed recent security improvements in the country to the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieut.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.

Babalola stated this on Tuesday during a familiarisation visit to the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta.

The GOC, who spoke with newsmen after addressing the troops of the brigade,  said that the philosophy provided clear directives on operational conduct anchored on a soldier-first culture and the pursuit of mission success.

According to him, the approach has led to significant improvements in security and would continue to yield positive results.

He explained that his visits to formations and units under the division were aimed at familiarising himself with their operations and conveying the message of the chief of army staff to personnel.

Babalola said that the chief of army staff’s philosophy was anchored on five pillars: professionalism, robust administration, operational efficiency, strategic cooperation and exemplary leadership.

According to him, the pillars are founded on a soldier-first culture, which, if properly adopted, would guarantee a better future, mission success and sustained operational effectiveness.

He added that the chief of army staff remained committed to the philosophy, noting that several operational successes were already being recorded across the country as a result of his practical leadership.

He warned criminals to change their mindset, stressing that criminal activities would no longer be tolerated.

He urged the troops to take operations seriously, commending the Commander 35 Artillery Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Godwin Nwamba and his officers for their dedication and efforts in securing the state and the nation.

“The success recorded so far is due to the command’s philosophy of the chief of army staff. This philosophy has given us clear directives on what to do and how to do it, anchored on the soldier-first culture and mission success as its ethos.

“With this approach, we have seen significant improvement in security, and it will continue to improve. The only message to criminals is that they should have a change of mindset, because from now onward, they will not find it funny,” he said.
