An Area Court in Jos on Thursday sentenced a block moulder, Yashim John, to 36 months’ imprisonment for swindling his client of N580,000.
The Judge, Mrs Irene Pati, convicted John after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and fraud and appealed to the court for leniency.
Pati sentenced the convict to 12 months’ imprisonment with an option of a N50,000 fine for criminal breach of trust, and 24 months’ imprisonment with an option of a N50,000 fine for fraud.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on Dec. 15, 2025, at the Laranto Police Station by the complainant, Mr Danjuma Dagok.
Gokwat said the complainant gave the convict N580,000 to supply 1,000 cement blocks, but he failed to do so.
He added that during police investigation, the convict confessed to converting the money to his personal use and failed to refund it.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened the 2017 Plateau State Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
