An Area Court in Jos, on Monday, sentenced three friends to six months imprisonment each, for stealing the sum of N900,000 belonging to a complainant.
The defendants are: Rito Yakubu, Byes Choji, and Surama Dauda.
The defendants were charged on counts of stealing and abetment of stealing.
They each pleaded guilty to the charges.
The presiding judge, Irene Pati, sentenced the convicts following their guilty pleas.
The court also ordered the convicts to pay a compensation of N918,000.
The prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, had told the court that the case was reported at the C division police station, on Nov. 3, 2025, by a complainant, one Mr Raphael Chukmma.
He said that the complainant had reported that the first defendant (Yakubu), broke into his shop to steal the money
The complainant had told the court that after stealing the money, the first defendant met with his friends, (Choji and Dauda) to squander same.
The prosecutor, further told the court that during investigation, the defendants confessed to have committed the offence
The offence contravenes the provisions of the Plateau State Penal Law of Northern Nigeria, 2017.
