A 25-year-old woman, Fathiat Olasunmade, on Tuesday, pleaded not guilty before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, to charges of N4.5 million fraud brought against her by the police.
The defendant whose address was not provided is standing trial on charges of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Adeshina Folaranmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between January and June, at Odo-Ona Elewe in badan.
Folaranmi alleged that the defendant conspired with others now at large, to obtain the sum of N4.5 million from one Mr Ayomide Christopher, under the pretex of helping him to secure a Cyprus visa.
He said that the defendant failed to get the visa, but converted the money to her personal use.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390(9), 419, and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwabusayo Osho, granted the defendant bail in the sum of three million naira with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Jan.26, 2026, for hearing.
