The Police Command in Ebonyi has arrested a suspected robber over an attack on a female Point of Sale (PoS) operator.
Spokesman of the command, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abakaliki.
Ukandu said the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday along Kpirikpiri/Osborn street in the state capital.
“We gathered that the suspect attacked and poured fuel on the PoS operator and set fire on her. Our men were able to rescue the victim and she is safe. Her money was also recovered. The suspect was nabbed while he was trying to make away with a bag that contained cash belonging to the PoS operator,” the police spokesman said.

Travel Agent in court over alleged N2.5m visa fraud
A travel agent, James Anthony, 40, on Friday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over an alleged N2.5 million visa fraud.
Anthony was charged with obtaining money under false pretence and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Adeshina Folaranmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in October 2024 at Dugbe, Ibadan.
Folaranmi alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N2.5 million from one Chinaemerem Unaegbu on the pretext of procuring a Mauritius visa for her.
He said that the defendant failed to procure the visa and instead converted the money to his personal use.
He added that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwabusayo Osho, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two reliable sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Jan. 14, 2026, for hearing.
