Gov. Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has congratulated Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda on his emergence as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His congratulatory message was contained in a statement signed by Tersoo Kula, his Chief Press Secretary, and made available to newsmen on Thursday in Makurdi.
Also, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has urged the party new National Chairman to ensure party unity.
Yilwatda was unanimously elected by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to replace Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, who resigned in June over personal and health reasons. The new chairman was the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
The governor described Yilwatda as a distinguished academic, visionary leader, and politician whom he believed has the capacity to succeed in his new role.
He said the new chairman would surely take the party to enviable heights.
According to the governor, “His intellect, brilliance, expertise, integrity, and unwavering commitment to excellence are some of his qualities that will draw more admiration and attract more support and love for the ruling APC across the country.”
He wished the former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Commissioner in Benue and APC candidate for the 2023 Plateau governorship election the best as he steers the affairs of the party
On his part, Obasa who is the Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, in a congratulatory message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dave Agboola, in Lagos described Yilwatda as well-suited for the role, commending his long-standing service in academia and contributions to Nigeria’s digital development.
He noted Yilwatda’s time as ICT Director at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, and consultancy work with UNICEF, EU, and the World Bank.
Obasa also highlighted his roles as a Resident Electoral Commissioner and Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
He urged the new chairman to apply his vast experience in leading the APC forward.
“Prof. Yilwatda’s dedication to reforming public service through technology reflects the APC’s mission to advance communities and national development,” Obasa said.
He expressed confidence in Yilwatda’s blend of technocratic and political leadership.
In the same vein the Chairman, House of Reps Committee on Interior, Alh. Abdullahi Aliyu-Ahmed, has congratulated Prof. Yilwatda.
In a statement on Thursday by Mr Francis Sardauna, his Special Assistant on Media, Aliyu-Ahmed pledged continued support for the new party leadership.
Aliyu-Ahmed represents the Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency of Katsina State in the House of Representatives.
He expressed confidence that Prof. Yilwatda’s leadership would bring renewed internal unity and stronger grassroots engagement to the All Progressives Congress.
He urged members to work together for a more united APC and a prosperous Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
He said Yilwatda’s emergence reflects his proven leadership, dedication, and commitment to national growth and development.
“APC will witness stronger unity and grassroots revival as a party rooted in progressive values and democratic ideals,” Aliyu-Ahmed added.
