A 94-year-old has made history as the oldest Nigerian to register for Unified Tertiary Examination (UTME). Adedapo Idowu, became a notable candidate in the 2025 (UTME), as he registered to fulfill his dream of studying Political Science at the University of Ibadan.

This marks a historic moment, as it is the first time in JAMB’s over 40-year history that a nonagenarian has registered for the examination. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced this significant development in its latest bulletin, revealing that more than 700,000 candidates have registered for the exams since the registration opened on January 31, 2025.

Among the applicants, there are over 11,000 underage students, highlighting the diversity of candidates participating this year. Idowu expressed relief and enthusiasm about his registration experience, stating, “I can now attain my dream at an advanced age.

The registration staff gave me a sense of belonging through their warm reception at the registration centre.” His fears surrounding pursuing higher education at such an old age have been alleviated, thanks to a seamless registration process. As he embarks on this educational journey, Idowu serves as an inspiring example of lifelong learning and the pursuit of academic aspirations, no matter the age.
