Renowned Political Economist and Commonwealth Institute Director, Prof Anthony Kila has praised the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) for his statement on the ongoing attempt by the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) to arrest and interrogate the former Governor of Kogi State Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

The popular public affairs analyst who called the AGF’s intervention timely and meaningful told an international forum of African and Caribbean political scholars, on Friday morning during a webinar organised to discuss economic and developmental opportunities in African and Caribbean countries.

According to him,  “The AGF’s intervention in the matter of a former governor evading arrest by the anticorruption agency in Nigeria is both timely and meaningful. The minister of justice could have buried his head in the sand or acted quietly, his public statement sends a message saying we value justice”.

Prof Kila was referring to the statement of the AGF who invited the embattled former governor to “toe the path of decency.”

The don, who admitted that he was not a fan of the current minister of justice, also noted that “he (the minister) was my not my preffred choice for the job of AGF but with this singular act of not defending the law, he has shown that he understands the importance of the rule of law in a system that wants work”

The professor urged scholars to not find what is wrong or proffer solutions but to also take time to highlight those who do good things.
