The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has fixed March 12 for the arraignment of Qatar Airways Group QCSC for allegedly failing to honour a summons issued by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

Joined as the Airways’ co-defendant is its Country Manager, Western Africa, Kennedy K. Chirchir.

The charge, marked FHC/L/742c/2023, alleged that the defendants committed the offence on December 4, 2023.

It reads in part: “That you, Qatar Airways Group QC.S.C and Kennedy K. Chirchir, on December 5, 2023, at 142 Ahmadu Bello Way, 11th Floor Standard Chartered Bank Building, Opposite Silver Bird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos, did without sufficient cause failed and or refused to appear before the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission in compliance with a lawful Summons to Attend dated December 4, 2023.”

According to the FCCPC, the alleged offence contravened Section 33 (3) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018.

When the matter came up on January 30, 2024, the FCCPC’s counsel, Tam Tamunokonbia, informed the court that the agency was yet to serve one of the defendants in the suit.

He applied for a short date to enable the agency to effect service.

Consequently, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke adjourned till March 12 for arraignment.
