Former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Senator Godswill Akpabio representing Akwa Ibom North West District has emerged as the Senate President of the 10th Senate.
The Senator beat his only rival for the position, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari from Zamfara state to clinch the post.
The voting begun at exactly 08:45am on a state-by-state basis, alphabetically and ended at exactly 09:15am.
With his election and victory, Mr Akpabio will lead the Senate and become the nation’s number three citizen as well as the Chairman of the National Assembly.
During the last Senate, Mr Lawan, who has been in the Senate since 1999, was the Senate Leader, while Mr Bukola Saraki, who is not returning to the Senate, was the Senate President.
