*Dubbed ‘NADECO Bishop’
Rev Peter Adebiyi, one of the foremost critics of military rule of the ‘90s is dead. He was 78.
For his fierce criticism of military rule, he was nicknamed “NADECO Bishop”, after the National Democratic Coalition, a group formed by frontline politicians to fight against military government in Nigeria.
He died on Thursday around 10 pm after a protracted ailment.
His son Adeboye Adebiyi and his former spokesman Mr. Tunji Oguntuase have confirmed his death.
A statement by his son informed that the cleric retired from the Lagos West Diocese of the Anglican Communion in 2013 at 70.
He was born on April 27, 1943, at Osi-Ekiti, Ekiti State, and was ordained a deacon in1970 and a priest in 1971.
He became a canon in 1983 and was the vicar of Archbishop Vining Memorial Church, Ikeja between 1987 and May 1993.
His wife Caroline Adebiyi died a few years ago.
