United States President Donald Trump has finally agreed to transfer power to President-Elect Joe Biden.
Trump made the pledged in a statement on Thursday shortly after Congress confirmed Biden’s victory.
The statement read: âEven though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless, there will be an orderly transition on January 20th. I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted.
âWhile this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, itâs only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again.â
Biden won the November 3 election with 81,283,098 votes after flipping some Republican strongholds, leaving Trump with 74,222,958 votes.
On December 14, the electoral college voted just as the statesâ ballot went, handing Biden the 306 votes while Trump got 232 votes.
Trump had repeatedly denied his loss to Biden and claimed the election was rigged.
On Wednesday, his supporters stormed the Congress and Capitol Hill to stop the certification of the election results.
While addressing his supporters, he vowed to keep fighting his defeat.
âWe will never concede,â the US president had told the crowd, adding, âyou donât concede when thereâs theft.â
He had also said: âThis year, they rigged an election. They rigged it like theyâve never rigged an election before.
âAll of us here today do not want to see our election victory stolen by emboldened radical left Democrats, which is what theyâre doing and stolen by the fake news media. Thatâs what theyâve done and what theyâre doing.
âWe will never give up. We will never concede, it doesnât happen. You donât concede when thereâs theft involved.â
