There has been worries over the health of billionaire businessman and owner of the Persianas group,Tayo Amusan.
The brain behind the popular The PALMS Shopping Mall, is said to be battling to save his life in one of the approved isolation centre facilities in Lagos.
Tayo and Ayo Amusan both have a vision to grow the Nigerian retail sector. Persianas [their development company] built the first mall of international standards in Nigeria and currently own five others spread across Nigeria in Lagos, Ibadan, Kwara, Enugu and soon to be launched Abuja.
An early entrant into the burgeoning Nigerian retail scene, Tayo used his 25-year property experience to build The Palms, a 45,000 square meters property situated on Lagos’ Lekki Peninsula.
In 2004, The Palms was opened providing a world class retail environment and setting the benchmark for retailing, not only in Nigeria but throughout West Africa. Such was the success of The Palms that Persianas has subsequently developed and opened three additional malls along similar lines in Enugu, Kwara, Ota and Ibadan.
While Tayo is focused on the property aspect of Persianas, his wife, Ayo oversees its retailers. Appointed Director of Retail in 2011, she has been involved in the retail industry since 1998.
She holds an MSc in Risk Management from Cass Business School, City University, London, the city in which she began her career working in strategy and budgeting. It was Ayo who led Persianas’ negotiations to secure the Hugo Boss, Puma and Lacoste franchises.
With more than 25 years of experience doing business in Nigeria, mainly in the real estate sector, Tayo Amusan also serves on the board of several Nigerian companies including African Paints Nigeria Limited and is also the Chairman of Resourcery Limited.
