The Zone ‘D’ Federal Operations of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a luxury bus carrying 140 kilograms of cannabis sativa worth N12 million along Abuja-Jos road.
Peters Olugboyega, Comptroller in Charge of the zone disclosed this while handing over the vehicle and seized items to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Jos.
According to the comptroller, the driver of the vehicle and his assistant were also arrested and would be handed over to the NDLEA.
He explained that the seizure was as a result of serious surveillance by officers and men of the command.
“In continuation of the fight against smuggling, our men while on credible information along Abuja-Jos road intercepted a Luxurious bus with registration number SE 641 AKW belonging to GUO transport company.
“During the physical examination, the bus was found to contain 140 kilogram of cannabis sativa concealed in two bales of second hand clothing with the street value of N12 million.
“The driver of the vehicle and his assistant were arrested immediately as the owner of the bales could not be identified.
“This unprecedented seizure was made possible as a result of surveillance and determination of our operatives in making the zone unbearable for smugglers,” he said.
Olugboyega warned members of the public, particularly those within the zone to desist from smuggling, adding that the command would not spare anyone caught engaging in illicit transaction.
He called on young people to abstain from consumption of marijuana and other hard substances, and advised them to engage in meaningful ventures.
Saidu Shafii, NDLEA Assistant Commander in Plateau, in charge of Operations, who received the suspects and the seized items, promised to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
