Nigeria’s Under-20 Women’s team crashed out of the ongoing Women’s World Cup in France after losing to Spain.

Spain booked their spot in the semi-finals after first-half goals from Aitana Bonmati and Patri Guijarro.

The first goal of the match was recorded within 13 minutes.

Bonmati almost had a second with a free-kick that struck the underside of the Nigerian crossbar and bounced away to safety, while Eva Navarro forced a point blank save from Nnadozie moments later.

Nigeria’s Peace Efih responded with a goal in the second half of the match but that could not save the African team in the encounter.

The Spanish team started the competition with a 4-1 victory over Paraguay, defeated Japan 1-0 in the next game and were held to a 2-2 draw by USA in their final group game.

The match against Spain was the seventh time Nigeria made it to the quarterfinals of the competition in nine appearances.
