China on Thursday expressed regret over the expiration of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) between the U.S. and Russia.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, at a regular news conference, said that New START played a critical role in maintaining international strategic balance.
He said that the international community widely believed that the treaty’s expiration would have negative consequences for the global arms control framework and the international nuclear order.
