A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday ordered the remand of three men in a correctional facility over alleged armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and criminal conspiracy.
The pleas of the defendants, Garba Usman, 34, Hassan Dauda, 29 and Aliyu Garba, 31, were not taken.
The Magistrate, Hajara Dauda, said the defendants should be remanded pending the advice of the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She adjourned the case until May 21, for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Baba, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Feb.22, along Kaduna-Zaria Road.
According to Baba, the defendants and three others at large, while armed with a gun and other dangerous weapons, attacked and robbed one Abdullahi Shehu and his wife, Halima, of their belongings.
The prosecutor said the defendants robbed the complainants of N300,000 cash, three laptops, mobile phones and wrist watches, all valued at N3.9 million.
He said the defendants were arrested in Abuja by a team of policemen attached to the state Criminal and Investigative Department (CID), based on information received.
“The defendants confessed to have committed the crimes during police investigations. The offences contravene the provisions of sections 59 and 238 (1)(2)(a) and 244 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017,” he said.
