A devastating motor vehicle accident occurred on Wednesday evening before Nyanya Bridge, resulting in multiple fatalities and significant injuries, according to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, it was confirmed that a heavy-duty Dangote trailer, loaded with cement, lost control and crashed into several stationary vehicles caught in traffic.
Eyewitnesses report that the crash resulted in a fire that engulfed 14 vehicles, leading to chaos and panic among motorists and bystanders.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene, battling thick smoke and extreme heat to rescue those trapped within the wreckage.
Despite their efforts, six victims were sadly confirmed dead at the hospital after being pulled from the burnt vehicles.
Their remains have since been transferred to the Karu General Hospital Morgue. Local hospitals, including the National Hospital and Asokoro Hospital, are currently overwhelmed with victims of this tragic accident.
Many individuals are receiving treatment for various injuries sustained during the collision.
The police, alongside fire service personnel and other security agencies, managed to contain the fire and restore normal traffic flow at the accident site.
The incident has prompted an outpouring of condolences for the victims and their families, as the community grapples with the aftermath of this heart-wrenching event.
