The Lagos State Government has announced an eight-hour road closure on Saturday, February 15, 2025, for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, set to take place same day. The marathon will run from 5am till 1pm and is expected to cause significant traffic diversions along key routes.

State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, provided detailed information regarding the road closures, stating that several streets will be temporarily inaccessible to vehicular traffic during the event. Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time and consider alternative routes to minimize disruptions.

The marathon will commence at the National Stadium in Surulere and will follow a route that includes notable streets such as Ikorodu Road, Gbagada, Dolphin Road, Alfred Rewane Road, Bourdillon Road, and Admiralty Way, ultimately concluding at Ahmadu Bello Way, Eko Atlantic.

To ensure the smooth running of the marathon, concrete barriers will be set up along all adjoining roads, junctions, and intersections from the starting point at the National Stadium to the endpoint at Eko Atlantic. Traffic management personnel from various agencies, including LASTMA, NPF, FRSC, LSNC, and LAWMA, will be stationed to oversee the event and prevent unauthorized access to the main race corridor.

Travel Advisory for Motorists

In light of the closures, several alternative routes have been mapped out for motorists.

Those traveling from Ikeja to Victoria Island are advised to use Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue, while travelers from Badagry and Mile 2 should navigate through Apapa and Eko Bridge.

Motorists in Surulere can access the island via Iponri/Iganmu, whereas those coming from Lagos-Ibadan Expressway should take the Ojota Slip Road. Furthermore, drivers from Epe-Lekki Expressway are encouraged to utilize Marwa Junction and Admiralty Way.

For those needing to travel from Lagos Island to the Mainland, detours will be in place via Apongbon Bridge and Eko Bridge, ensuring connectivity through Costain Roundabout and other key intersections.

Commissioner Osiyemi assured residents that traffic management officials would be deployed to reduce potential disruptions and urged the public to use alternative routes and consider different modes of transportation during the marathon.

He called for patience from motorists, emphasizing that such measures are essential for the successful execution of the 10th Edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon Race 2025, which aims to promote health, fitness, and community spirit within the state.
