*Establish Foundation for the war hero
The family of the late Brigadier-General Benjamin Adekunle (popularly known as the ‘Black Scorpion’) has announced a one-week remembrance programme to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Nigeria civil war hero.
The late General of the Commander of the Third Marine Commando during the war. The Command under his command recaptured the Delta and riverine areas of Nigeria from the Biafran forces during the early stages of the Nigerian Civil War.
According toa statement by Benjamin Onigbinde on behalf of the family, the programme organised by the children and extended family of the late Brigadier-General will begin during the second week of September starting with a private civil religious service at Vaults and Gardens, Ikoyi Lagos.
There will also be a Memorial Lecture in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, the hometown of h war hero. This will be followed by charitable events simultaneously in both Ogbomoso and Abuja.
According to the statement, iIn the course of the commemorative week, the late General’s family will unfold a Memorial Foundation to be established in his honour.
Two distinguished retired Generals- Major- General Lawrence Ngubane, who hails from the late General’s mother’s background (She was a Bachama), and the current Director-General of the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Brigadier-General Buba Marwa, have been approached by the Adekunle family to lead the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
