Two women, Onadipe Remilekun and Lynda Adewumi, were on Wednesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged fighting.
Remilekun, 34, whose address was not provided was charged with entering a residence with intent to commit a felony.
Adewumi, 36, was charged with assault.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
The Prosecutor, Insp. John Iberedem, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 16 at about 3.30 p.m. at Ojulomo Imoshe Street Anifowoshe, Ikeja, Lagos.
Iberedem said Remilekun allegedly entered into the residence of one Chikoke Maduka and Egwuekwe Precious to steal but was caught in the act.
The prosecutor said the second defendant, Adewumi, who lives in the same compound, took matters into her own hands and beat up Remilekun.
“She assaulted her by putting pepper into her private parts and other parts of her body to such a degree to cause her discomfort as a deterrent not to steal again,” he said.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 170(2) which is punishable under Sections 172 and 308(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 172 states that an offender is liable to one year imprisonment while Section 308(1) is liable to imprisonment for five years for anyone found guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs E.Kubeinje, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
Kubeinje, thereafter, adjourned the case until May 15, for mention.
